A Category – a motorcycle with an engine power exceeding 35kW or a power-to-weight ratio exceeding 0.2 kW/kg. A three-wheeled vehicle with a symmetrical arrangement of wheels, with an engine power exceeding 15 kW. You can get an A category license if you are at least 24 years old (you can start your studies at 23.5 years old) and if you have had a license of any category vehicle (e.g. B, C, D) for at least two years.
Those who still have a primary B category driver’s license or have had a A1 category license for 2 years, can start studying for A2 category in further education.
A2 category – a motorcycle with an engine power not exceeding 35kW or a power-to-weight ratio not exceeding 0.2 kW/kg, and not converted from a vehicle with at least twice that power. You can get an A2 category license if you are at least 18 years old (you can start your studies at 17.5 years old).
The course focuses on the specific topics of understanding and using a motorcycle. In the theory studies, the emphasis is on developing defensive driving skills, assessing situations, developing safe driving techniques, and learning the difference between driving a two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicle. To pass the theory exam, you must also know the traffic law and other relevant law. Studying the traffic rules will mostly be done as independent work. Since the students must already have a license of some category, this should not be a problem.
The volume of theory studies is 10 hours, which consists of 3 lectures.
Driving lessons take place on the training ground and in traffic and consist of the following topics:
Training ground topics:
Handling the motorcycle, including inspecting the vehicle before the start of the ride, taking off, manoeuvres.
Driving the vehicle on the training ground, including starting from a slope, driving at pedestrian speeds, various turning and passing exercises.
Intermediate test in the ability to drive a motorcycle.
Driving in traffic topics:
Driving the vehicle in traffic.
Driving the vehicle in specials conditions.
Driving practice will last for at least 10 lessons.
